2027: Makinde makes strategic move ahead of major political battle

Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, has met with the party’s governorship candidates across the South-West for strategic discussions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The APM governorship candidate in Lagos State, Prince Laja Adeoye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

Adeoye said the meeting was aimed at strengthening the party’s structures and improving grassroots mobilisation ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

He said those present at the meeting included Bimbo Adekanmbi, the APM governorship candidate in Oyo State, Prince Laja Adeoye of Lagos State and Rotimi Babajide of Ogun State.

The APM governorship candidate in Osun State also took part in the strategic meeting, he added.

According to Adeoye, the discussions focused on deepening preparations and strengthening the party’s political presence across the South-West geopolitical zone.

He said Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States were identified as key areas for expanding the party’s electoral influence.

Adeoye stated that the party’s goal was to turn the states into “reliable strongholds” for the APM ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Lagos governorship candidate added that the party was also seeking to extend its reach beyond the South-West as part of its wider national mobilisation efforts.

Makinde became the APM presidential candidate after winning the party’s presidential primary held in Ibadan.

During his acceptance speech, Makinde stressed the need to ‘restore hope and rebuild public confidence’ in Nigeria.

He also promised to implement practical reforms in critical areas, including the oil and gas sector, agriculture and the wider economy.
