Ahead of the 2027 elections in Cross River State, Alex Egbunna, a member of the House of Representatives for the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, has cautioned against undervaluing the political threat posed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition party.
Egbunna, who called the party “nothing,” warned reporters in Calabar that any politician who undervalues the ADC is doing something wrong.
“Anybody who underrates the ADC in Cross River is not a serious politician.
“They are nothing, but we will not underrate them since the likes of former governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, are seriously involved and leading them in the state,” he said.
Egbunna mentioned the former governor’s political influence and acknowledged Imoke as his “boss and former principal.”
“In politics, you do not underrate any party. We’re going to match strength for strength, money for money, and connections for connections,” he vowed, warning: “That doesn’t mean they can defeat us in 2027.”
The member said that the ruling party’s performance over the last two years has improved their chances of winning reelection.
Regarding the opposition PDP’s prospects of recovering, Egbunna was direct:
“PDP can never regroup again. They are still tearing themselves apart. Everyone can see how their symbol, the umbrella, has torn.
“Their key members have abandoned it for the APC and other fragile opposition parties.”
