Bolaji Abdullahi, the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) interim national publicity secretary, has explained why Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai have not yet joined the opposition party.
During a weekend media briefing in Abuja, Abdullahi clarified that both Obi and El-Rufai were permitted to finish specific electoral procedures within their previous political parties.
Both Obi and El-Rufai, he told the public, were still dedicated to the ADC alliance and would formally join the party once those procedures were finished.
“They were given the opportunity to finalise pending elections, including by-elections and the selection of governorship candidates within their legacy parties,” he said.
In response to questions on the party’s internal democracy, Abdullahi stated that there is no secret agenda or candidate of choice and that all candidates will have an equal opportunity to win the party’s ticket.
Additionally, the acting spokesperson denied rumors that the ADC was dealing with serious legal problems.
“We are confident in the legality of every step we have taken. We made sure we closed all loopholes the ruling party might try to use against us,” he added.
