Sunday Oliseh, the former head coach of the Super Eagles, has selected Spain’s Rodri, a midfield player, as the 2024 European MVP.

After the Manchester City player led Spain to a 2-1 victory over Germany in the quarterfinal on Friday, Oliseh made this statement.

Recall that the game concluded in a 1-1 draw after normal time, with Dani Olmo giving Spain the lead in the 51st minute and Florian Wirtz tying the score for Germany a few minutes later.

But only one minute before extra time ended, Mikel Merino scored a late winner to advance Spain to the semifinals.

Rodri was on the field for the whole game.

With 92 touches of the ball at the end of the match, 94% of his passes were completed, and he emerged victorious from nine out of 16 ground duels.

Reacting to Rodri’s display, Oliseh, in a tweet on X after the game, said: “For me, the MVP of the Euros, so far, Rodri!! I have never seen a Spanish central defensive midfielder interprete this role in this way.

“Sad for my German friends who put up a great fight, but Spain is really special!! The Spanish dominate play with youngsters & tactics!”
