The Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos State removed a contentious banner that read, “Jesus Christ is Not God,” hours after receiving criticism, and replaced it with another banner.

As previously reported, Christians expressed their displeasure with the religious organisation, citing the banner’s perceived fiery and polarizing nature as the reason for their strong criticism.

In response to the criticism, a community member called Tunde Alabi verified on the microblogging platform X that the banner had been taken down.

Alabi stated that he went to the mosque on Wednesday night to verify that the flag had been taken down.

Alabi stated that the criticism forced him to request that the banner be taken down.

The video narrator said: Lekki Central Mosque replaces “Jesus is not God” banner with another controversial banner after backlash“My name is Tunde Alabi. I am a member of the Lekki Muslim Community. I noticed a banner pasted in front of our mosque, causing some controversies. I sent a message to the mosque community and was told that it had been removed, so I came to confirm myself. As you can see, the one that was removed is supposed to be behind me.”

He also stated remorse for the controversies that followed the placement of the religious banner.

“I am not speaking on behalf of the mosque. I am speaking for myself. I am sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused. Today is the 18th of December, ”he added.

However, the new banner had inscriptions that reads: “No deity is worthy of worship except Allah, the lord of Jesus Christ, Abraham, Jacob, Joesph, Moses, Muhammad, and all prophets.”
