Northwest University in Kano, Nigeria, has taken disciplinary action against students involved in examination malpractices. The university’s Senate has expelled 41 students and rusticated 18 others for violating the institution’s examination policies.
The decision was made after the Central Examination Misconduct Committee submitted its recommendations to the Senate. The committee’s findings revealed that the affected students had engaged in malpractices during the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.
In addition to the expulsions and rustications, 42 students received written warnings for their involvement in the malpractice. However, two students were exonerated of all charges after a thorough investigation.
The students implicated in the malpractice were from various faculties, including Basic Medical Science, Science, Computing, Education, Social and Management Sciences, and Humanities.
The university’s decision was confirmed through a circular issued on January 3rd, 2025. The move is seen as a strong stance against academic dishonesty and a commitment to upholding the institution’s values of integrity and excellence.
