Former Governor Samuel Ortom has been formally nominated by the Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to serve on the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) in the state.
His nomination signifies a dramatic change in the party’s leadership in the state, as the terms of the former members have come to an end.
Tim Nyor, the party’s publicity secretary, made this claim in a statement on Tuesday.
Nyor said, “In compliance with sections 32(1)(g) and 32(4) of the PDP constitution, the nomination was announced via correspondence from the party Secretariat to Chief Ortom and signed by the party Secretary Comrade Dan Nyikwagh .”
He went on to say that the State Working Committee, SWC, emphasised that Chief Ortom was the best person for the job because of his wealth of expertise and commitment to the party.
“After careful deliberation, the SWC under the Chairmanship of Rt Hon Ezekiel Awulu Adaji unanimously endorsed you for the position, recognizing your invaluable contributions to the party, your exemplary leadership, and your commitment to the ideals and progress of the PDP .
“Chief Ortom, who served as the Governor of Benue State from 2015 to 2023, has been an influential figure within the PDP and is widely recognized for his governance and advocacy on various social issues.
“His new role is expected to enhance the party’s influence and strategic direction, particularly as it prepares for the upcoming elections.”
The PDP’s SWC, according to Nyor, expressed optimism that Chief Ortom’s participation as a BOT member will improve the party’s unity in Benue and guarantee that the state’s interests are represented within the national party framework.
According to him, Chief Ortom will be instrumental in determining the PDP’s policies and course, not just in Benue State but throughout Nigeria, as a result of this nomination.
