Mudashiru Obasa, the embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has disclosed how the police broke into his residence and locked up his family while he was being impeached.

On Saturday, January 25, 2025, after his return to Nigeria, Obasa addressed a press conference.

Citing accusations of financial mismanagement and misbehaviour, including the withdrawal of ₦43.5 billion for lawmakers’ backup vehicles and other expenses, the state Assembly unanimously voted to remove Obasa on January 13.

Mojisola Meranda quickly took his seat, becoming the first woman to speak at the Assembly.

Obasa has not spoken since his impeachment, despite reports that he was in the United States at the time.

But at a welcome rally held at his Joel Ogunnaike GRA home in Ikeja, he described the allegations against him as “fictitious and unsubstantiated.”

The embattled lawmaker stated that he was not scared of being removed but requested that it be done strictly in accordance with the law.

Obasa claimed that the police conspired to carry out his impeachment, accusing the Lagos Commissioner of Police of organising security forces to break into the assembly before he was removed.

He said that more than 200 police officers broke into his home in Agege and Ikeja and locked his family inside.

“If I am not a speaker, that’s not the end of the world. If you want to claim that I am corrupt, please prove it.

“Is it possible to construct a gate? An ordinary gate with N16bn? When it’s not Jericho wall,” he added.
