Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has responded to rumors that he would run for president.
El-Rufai claimed that despite his eligibility to run for president, he had never spoken to anyone about his ambitions.
Speaking about his recent discussions with opposition leaders, he said this on Monday night’s episode of Arise TV’s Prime Time.
In Kaduna State, El-Rufai recently visited with a few PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) members. He also met with representatives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
The former governor, however, rejected the idea of joining the PDP.
According to El-Rufai: “Anyone from the age of 35 with a secondary school certificate is qualified to run for president, so in that sense, I am qualified.
“But have I started talking to anybody about running for any office? No. I have never discussed that with anybody.
“PDP is not a party I would consider joining. I thought about it long ago and made my decision. Nothing has changed.”
