The Federal Government has commenced the distribution of sustainable empowerment equipment to 3,500 women across the North Central Zone, including the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Agenda, aimed at promoting poverty alleviation and entrepreneurship activities.

According to Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, wife of Kogi Governor, “This empowerment will benefit 18,500 women across the country’s six geopolitical zones.” The North Central zone is the first to benefit from this program, with women receiving items such as deep-chest freezers, Maxi gas cookers with ovens, generators, and industrial grinding machines to grow their existing businesses.

Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the critical role women play in nation-building, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. She advised beneficiaries to use the resources judiciously, stating, “The items being distributed today are to equip our women with the necessary tools and resources they need to build successful businesses and contribute to the prosperity of our great nation.”

Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, commended the First Lady for her visionary leadership. Orelope-Adefulire highlighted the initiative’s focus on unlocking potential, fostering economic independence, and creating opportunities for women to thrive. She noted, “By equipping 500 women per state and the FCT with tools, we are strengthening their capacity to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to inclusive national development.

The OSSAP-SDGs has strengthened efforts at empowering women and children, including the construction and equipping of 66 Skills Acquisition Centres and Transit Homes. Orelope-Adefulire reaffirmed the President’s commitment to achieving the SDGs in Nigeria.

Beneficiaries, including Mrs. Khadijat Abdullahi, Mrs. Hannah Mohammed, and Dorcas Olayemi, expressed gratitude to the federal government. Olayemi stated, “This is the first time we are experiencing this kind of gesture to truly eradicate poverty at the grassroots. It will go a long way to improve our wellbeing and livelihoods.”

The symbolic presentation of empowerment items to beneficiaries by Mrs. Ododo on behalf of Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu marked the highlight of the occasion.

Mrs. Tinubu added, “To the beneficiaries, let these items serve as a foundation for creating better lives for yourselves and your families. I hope and pray that what you receive today will prosper in your hands.”

Orelope-Adefulire further stated, “This investment reflects our firm belief that when a woman is empowered, a home is built, a community is strengthened, and a nation prospers.”

She emphasized, “Indeed, recent evidence has shown that women entrepreneurs contribute significantly to Nigerian economic development through employment generation, poverty eradication, and basic family support.”

Orelope-Adefulire concluded, “Thus, I encourage our beneficiaries today to make the most of this opportunity. Let these empowerment tools serve as stepping stones towards financial independence, business development, and sustainable livelihood.”

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including state officials, local government representatives, and community leaders.

In a final statement, Orelope-Adefulire reaffirmed, “The President’s commitment to achieving the SDGs in Nigeria remains unwavering, and we will continue to work tirelessly towards empowering women and promoting sustainable development across the country.
