Felix Morka, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) national publicity secretary, has stated that he is unsure if Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is a member of the NEC.

Leaders of the ruling party gathered at the party’s National Secretariat for its NEC meeting in Abuja yesterday, according to a ZINGTIE report.

All members of the Forum of State Chairmen and the National Working Committee (NWC) attended the meeting including former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Senate President Goodwill Akpabio, Vice President Kashim Shetimma, and party leader President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were also present.

The NEC meeting takes place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, one day after the party’s national caucus meeting.

El-Rufai and former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi may not have attended the meeting because of some of the party’s fundamental problems.

Remember how El-Rufai recently accused President Tinubu and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, of planning his botched ministerial nomination?

He rejected the idea that his exclusion was due to a security report, asserting that Tinubu himself did not want him in his cabinet.

The NSA’s purported 2031 presidential aspirations was another reason he said Ribadu was sabotaging him.

El-Rufai has also been outspoken in his criticism of the ruling party’s lack of internal democracy.

The APC spokesperson expressed his doubts about El-Rufai’s membership in the party’s NEC in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

“Today, you know, there was a roll call of eminent members who attended this meeting today. The same way notice was sent to El-Rufai I believe, was how notices were sent to these other members who got the notices and attended.

“Many of them don’t live in Abuja but they made plans and traveled to be at this meeting today. If El-Rufai, you know, wanted to be at the meeting, I bet you, he would have come.

“By the way, let me not say this, because I don’t know how to check. I don’t know if he’s a member of NEC. Of certainly a member of caucus, but I don’t know that he’s a member of NEC. I mean, I doubt that,” he stated.
