Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, has stated that his primary goal is to build a strong team capable of winning the title at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The nine-time African champions secured a 2-0 victory over Cote d’Ivoire in a friendly match in Abidjan on Wednesday.

It was the Flying Eagles’ first real test since their victory over Ghana in the final of the WAFU B Championship last year.

Reflecting on the win against Cote d’Ivoire, Zubairu emphasized the importance of assessing his team’s progress as they prepare for the U-20 AFCON.

“My reaction to today’s game wouldn’t be that important as it is at this level in as much as much as we are still in a building process,” he told reporters after the game.

“We came here for the friendly match to be able to know the level at which some of the old players that went to WAFU-B are and the new ones that want to join us.”

The Flying Eagles will face Cote d’Ivoire again in another friendly on Friday.
