The Aaron Ponuwei Ebelo Foundation recently provided free medical services to the residents of Gbelebu in Ovia Southwest Local Government of Edo State and its environs. The initiative is part of the foundation’s efforts to sustain the positive legacies of the late Chief Aaron Ebelo, a leader of Gbelebu, and his love for his people.

The free medical services included medicated eyeglasses, medications for minor ailments, and free medical check-ups for blood pressure (BP) and blood glucose tests. Some beneficiaries were also referred to the nearby General Hospital at Iguobazuwa for further attention.

The Chairman of the foundation, Goodluck Ebelo, said the foundation was established in honour of his late father, who lived and died for the progress of Gbelebu and the entire Arogbo Ijaw-Ibe Clan. Ebelo stated, “When my father passed on in 2023, one of the things that occurred to me was how the man lived virtually all his life in Gbelebu and all he did for his people and the entire Izon nation. I knew I must do something to sustain his legacies and love for his people.

He added, “The Aaron Ponuwei Ebelo Foundation goes beyond medical outreach. The foundation is also involved in education and entrepreneurial support, not just for Gbelebu residents but also for everyone from the Arogbo Ijaw-Ibe Clan who are desirous of such support.”

Beneficiaries of the free medical services expressed gratitude to the foundation for the initiative. Mrs. Ebiere Kimibradigha, a retired primary school teacher, said, “I am grateful for the free medical services. I am happy that the children of our late chief put this in place. I thank them for the free eyeglasses and the medicines they gave to me and others.”

Another beneficiary, Seigha Warifa, a farmer and fisherman, said, “The children of our chief have done well by doing these for us. I am happy for the medicines given to me and for the letter to take to the General Hospital, Iguobazuwa. We want more of these programmes. God bless the organisers.”

The event was well-attended, with no fewer than 10 doctors and other medical professionals on ground to attend to the health needs of the beneficiaries.
