The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has refuted claims that its officials were responsible for a tragic road accident in Abeokuta that resulted in the death of an unidentified motorcyclist.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, directly opposite the Federal High Court in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. It involved a white and orange articulated truck bearing the label “A&O.”
Eyewitnesses alleged that the truck was being pursued by TRACE officers when it struck the motorcyclist while attempting to flee the scene.
Bystanders rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre, but he was confirmed dead before arrival.
In response to the allegations, TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi released a statement on Thursday, describing the reports as inaccurate and a distortion of the true events.
Akinbiyi clarified that the agency’s officials were not engaged in any form of pursuit involving the truck. He explained that the TRACE patrol team was simply carrying out its routine highway monitoring to ensure smooth traffic flow in the area.
According to the spokesperson, the truck driver, upon noticing the presence of the TRACE vehicle, abruptly veered right at high speed toward the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) area, during which he fatally hit the motorcyclist from behind.
He further disclosed that various suspicious items, including charms, ritualistic objects, and soap, were seen scattered at the scene, having reportedly fallen from the motorcycle.
