Nelson Adepoyigi, the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, who was abducted days ago, has been found dead.
Adepoyigi was taken by gunmen last Monday while attempting to park his car at his home in Ifon.
The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N100 million, but after persistent negotiations and appeals, the amount was brought down to N5 million.
Tragically, despite the ransom being arranged, Adepoyigi was killed. Two residents from Ifon had volunteered to deliver the N5 million payment, but were themselves seized by the abductors. The kidnappers then demanded an additional N30 million for the release of all three captives.
The two volunteers were eventually freed, and according to local sources, the abductors revealed that Adepoyigi had already been targeted for execution by those believed to have orchestrated the kidnapping.
Ose Local Government Chairman, Kolapo Ojo, confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern, stating that the security situation in the region has reached a highly alarming level.
“This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension.
“We urge our people to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security post, and stand united as we work together to overcome this threat,” he said.
