Israel has agreed to allow a limited amount of food assistance into Gaza, ending a strict 10-week blockade that has pushed the region to the edge of famine.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as the Israeli military steps up ground assaults across the Gaza Strip under its latest campaign, Operation Gideon’s Chariot.
Officials stated the decision was made on the advice of the Israeli military, which warned that a growing hunger crisis could jeopardize broader operational goals.
According to the statement, the aid will be closely regulated to ensure it does not fall into the hands of Hamas. It emphasized that only essential food supplies would be permitted and that strict measures would be taken to keep militant groups from intercepting or controlling distribution.
Since early March, the blockade has completely shut off food, fuel, and medicine, creating dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
Relief organizations have repeatedly warned of an impending famine among the enclave’s 2.1 million residents. Images and reports of severely undernourished children have increased international calls for Israel to ease the siege.
Among the most recent appeals was from French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who urged Israel to allow “immediate, massive and unhampered” aid deliveries.
The announcement came in the wake of intensified Israeli airstrikes and ground raids across multiple locations in Gaza, including Khan Younis, Beit Lahia, and the Jabalia refugee camp.
Gaza’s health ministry, run by Hamas, reported at least 67 fatalities and over 360 wounded in the latest wave of attacks.

The civil defense service in Gaza said that strikes also hit al-Mawasi, an area previously designated as a “safe zone,” resulting in the deaths of at least 22 individuals and injuring more than 100 others.
Israel has stated its operations are aimed at dismantling Hamas and rescuing remaining hostages.
“We will target any location used for rocket attacks,” the Israeli military said, urging civilians to evacuate to the al-Mawasi area.
The already overwhelmed healthcare system in Gaza has suffered further damage. Health officials confirmed that three public hospitals in the northern part of the territory are no longer functional due to the continued bombardment.
One of the hardest-hit facilities is the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, where staff reported that Israeli tanks surrounded the building and opened fire. At the time, 55 people including medical personnel and patients—were inside and unable to leave.
Although the tanks eventually withdrew, the hospital remains non-operational. Local medical sources and health officials have denied Israeli claims that the facility was being used for militant purposes.
Meanwhile, ceasefire negotiations taking place in Doha appear to have made little headway. Israeli media reported that Netanyahu’s office insists all diplomatic avenues are being pursued.
The proposed deal includes terms such as the release of hostages, the exile of Hamas leadership, and the full disarmament of Gaza.
However, a senior Hamas representative stated there has been no major progress, pointing to Israel’s refusal to agree to a permanent end to hostilities.
Hamas has reportedly offered to release all hostages in exchange for a complete Israeli military withdrawal and a significant increase in humanitarian aid—conditions that have not yet been accepted by the Israeli side.

A group advocating for the relatives of Israelis held in Gaza has voiced serious concern over the impact of Israel’s renewed military actions. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum warned that the ongoing offensive places those still in captivity at greater risk.

“Testimonies from released hostages describe significantly worsened treatment following military strikes,” the group said, referencing reports of abuse, physical restraints, and lack of food. (Quoted text retained as is.)
The conflict was triggered by Hamas’s large-scale assault on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, resulting in around 1,200 deaths and the abduction of more than 250 individuals.
In response, Israel launched a sustained military campaign in Gaza, which has caused massive destruction. Local health authorities report that the death toll among Palestinians has surpassed 53,000.
Currently, it is estimated that 58 hostages remain inside Gaza, with 23 of them thought to still be alive.
