A Nigerian woman has urged ladies to make love a priority when choosing a husband, stressing that genuine affection and companionship become increasingly important as couples grow older.

The woman shared her thoughts in a video posted on X, where she reflected on her parents’ marriage and her father’s recent efforts to care for her sick mother.

According to her, her mother has been unwell for about a week, while her father also struggles with health issues affecting his legs.

She said watching her father remain committed to caring for his wife despite his own difficulties reminded her of advice a friend gave her several years ago.

“See, marry for love. Marry for love. Don’t go and deceive yourself and go and marry for money. Anyway, if you marry them for money, make sure that all throughout your life you both fall in love with each other,”she said.

The lady explained that her father’s dedication to her mother had reinforced her belief that having a loving and supportive partner is particularly important as couples advance in age.

She also recalled a conversation she had with a friend in 2021, who advised her to look for a man capable of showing the same level of love and care she had witnessed from her father.

“My mom has been sick for the past one week. And my dad is someone that has issues with his legs. If you see the way my dad has been treating my mom for the past one week.

It is now that I remember what my friend told me 2021. She said, ‘Steph, if you don’t meet a man like your dad, I don’t think you will marry.’”she added.

She further noted that the importance of marriage often becomes more evident later in life, when couples depend on each other for companionship, affection and support.

Her comments have generated conversations about the role of love and financial considerations in marriage, as well as the qualities people should consider when choosing life partners.

The woman encouraged women to choose love and make conscious efforts to preserve it throughout their marriages.
