According to Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NCC, the initiative reflects the Commission’s commitment to advancing digital literacy, enhancing research capabilities, and fostering innovation within Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. “It represents a vital part of our broader agenda to accelerate ICT innovation, promote research capabilities, and drive the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy,” he stated.
Dr. Maida emphasised the importance of technology in driving economic transformation, saying, “Technology is one of the greatest drivers of economic transformation in our world today. For our growing economy, it remains our biggest hope, and this means we must create the right environment for it to thrive.” The ICT Park is designed to promote innovation and digital entrepreneurship, supporting research and development by transforming ideas into market-ready solutions.
The NCC’s vision for the ICT Parks is encapsulated in the concept of “One Roof All Possibilities,” which serves as a one-stop hub for innovation. Each park is equipped with modern infrastructure, including high-capacity computer labs, simulation rooms, smart networking systems, collaborative workspaces, and halls. “Each park houses, under it, a single roof, a multidisciplinary facility equipped with modern infrastructure,” Dr. Maida explained.
The ICT Park at the Federal University of Transportation, Daura, is equipped with a 100-seat capacity hall, five ICT hub halls, an All-star lounge with light double computer workstations, multiple workspaces, and offices. Dr. Maida expressed confidence that the facility will serve the institution excellently in its pursuit of digital development.
Prof. Umar Adam, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, appreciated the NCC for the edifice and promised to utilize the facility well. This gesture underscores the NCC’s commitment to enhancing digital education and innovation in Nigerian universities.
