The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has threatened to occupy the streets and shut down all campuses in Rivers State if justice is not served. According to NANS, Akpakpan was arrested by men in police uniform during a stop-and-search operation on April 16, 2024, and was later shot during an altercation between police officers and individuals in military uniform.

“We demand an immediate investigation into this alleged murder and call on the relevant authorities to bring those involved to book,” said Comrade Jokiel Gideon Chinonso, chairman of NANS Rivers State Joint Campus Council. “If nothing is done, we will not hesitate to occupy the streets and shut down all campuses in Rivers State.

Chinonso emphasised the students’ determination to ensure justice, stating, “We will not allow the lives of our members to be taken without consequences. We demand justice for Godwin Francis Akpakpan and his family.”
