The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Abia State has instructed all private educational institutions within the state to begin revalidating their operations using a centralized digital platform, starting from June 16.

This directive was announced in Umuahia by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, who clarified that the initiative is not intended to shut down any schools.

According to Ubochi, the revalidation process aims to capture and officially record all private schools—whether recognized, unapproved, or operating without authorization—into a newly established system known as the Abia State Basic and Secondary Education Management Information System (ASBS-EMIS).

As part of the process, each school will be assigned personalized login credentials to access the portal, while both teachers and students will receive distinct identification numbers.

“This exercise is not about closing schools; it is about lifting every school in Abia State to meet minimum acceptable standards. It’s about inclusion, quality, and transparency in education.

“The initiative is inclusive, extending to schools currently operating without approval, not to shut them down but to help them meet acceptable standards over time,” said Ubochi.

He emphasized that the revalidation process is completely free and advised school administrators to report any attempt by officials to solicit payment.

Additionally, he noted that the new digital system will enable authorities to track key indicators such as teacher-to-student ratios, infrastructure quality, and adherence to regulatory guidelines.
