Security officers stationed in the village neutralized the two bandits who carried out the deadly attack on Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of the state, according to Benue State Commissioner of Police Emenari Ifeanyi.
He made this statement on Thursday while providing reporters with an update on the Yelewata incident and the state’s ongoing efforts to safeguard people and property.
One of the robbers who attacked the Yelewata hamlet was captured by Ifeanyi’s troops and is “giving the police useful information,” he disclosed.
However, the police did not reveal the identification of the bandit who was apprehended.
Local sources said that the Yelewata attack killed over 200 people, however CP Ifeanyi put the death toll at 47.
Police Tactical Teams and other local security personnel responded to the robbers’ attempt to take over Yelewata, according to CP Ifeanyi.
He stated that Yelewata is now secure and mentioned that the Inspector General of Police has sent additional officers to regions that are prone to attacks and unrest.
Ifeanyi promised that his command and sister security agencies will continue to be on guard and make sure that the Yelewata event doesn’t occur again.
