Irate members of the Lafiagi community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have taken to the streets to express outrage over the recent kidnapping of a well-known agro-chemical merchant, widely referred to as Alhaji Chemical.

The victim was allegedly abducted from his residence in the Taiwo neighborhood of the town around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday by armed men believed to be Fulani bandits. The assailants, who reportedly arrived on motorbikes, unleashed heavy gunfire to overpower local vigilante groups before seizing the businessman.

Community insiders suggest the abduction was both deliberate and carefully organized, considering the victim’s local influence and the tactical nature of the operation. The incident has intensified fears among residents, who say kidnapping has become a recurring threat in the area.

Reacting to the situation, frustrated locals organized demonstrations on Monday, obstructing roadways and calling for immediate action from the authorities. They pointed to the recent kidnapping of a young Point of Sale (POS) operator as further proof of the escalating insecurity troubling the region.

“The situation is getting out of hand,” one resident said during the protest. “We can’t sleep with our eyes closed anymore. People are being taken almost weekly now.”

The aggrieved residents “urged security agencies to intensify patrols, track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of those abducted.”
