Ogun State Governor and Southern Governors’ Forum Chairman, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed heartfelt condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State following the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

The revered traditional ruler died in the early hours of Monday at the age of 90.

In a message released by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Governor Abiodun described the late monarch as an urbane and knowledgeable custodian of Yoruba culture and heritage.

He praised the late Oba for being a unifying figure, noting that his peaceful leadership helped to foster harmony and growth throughout Ibadanland.

“Although his death came at a time when we still need his wealth of experience and fatherly wisdom, we, however, take solace in the fact that his life was very eventful and impactful as a harbinger of rich tradition and culture of Ibadan and Yoruba in general.”

Governor Abiodun also offered prayers for the eternal rest of the late royal father and asked for divine comfort for his family and the entire people of Ibadan as they grieve the significant loss.

“On behalf of all the Governors in the southern part of Nigeria, I sympathise with his Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan in-council and all sons and daughters of Ibadan over the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on Monday.

“May God rest the soul of Kabiyesi as he transited to join his ancestors in the great beyond”, the statement read.
