Alex Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has urged President Bola Tinubu to grant the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Ikwechegh made this appeal in Umuahia on Thursday during the official unveiling of the Abia State Security Trust Fund. He pointed out that calls for Kanu’s release are now gaining support from some individuals in the North as well.
He expressed confidence that releasing Kanu from detention would help ease the rising insecurity in the South-East region.
Reflecting on the sustained efforts made by the South-East Caucus in the National Assembly, Ikwechegh noted that many people from the region may not realize how far Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and others have gone in pushing for Kanu’s freedom.
“The people of the South-East will always tell you that we feel marginalized and Nnamdi Kanu happens to be a voice.
“We have met with the NSA, Mallam Ribadu, we have met with Security and Intelligence Committee headed by my colleague from Borno.
“Even our northern brothers are agitating that Nnamdi Kanu should be released,” Ikwechegh said.
He also praised the Abia State Governor’s initiative to boost security in the state through the newly launched Security Trust Fund.
