Abdulsalami Abubakar, the former head of state, disclosed that he and former president Muhammadu Buhari were treated at the same hospital in London.
However, Buhari tragically died on Sunday, July 13, when he was being released.
Buhari was praised by the former military commander who turned over authority to civilians in 1999 as a good man who did his best for his nation.
According to ZINGTIE, Abubakar called Buhari’s passing a “major blow to Nigeria” in an interview with Channels Television on Monday.
He said, “Unfortunately, we were in the same hospital together, but I have been discharged. So when I hear the news of his passing away, I quickly went there to console wth the family and see what can be done in order to get the corpse ready to be taken home.”
Abubakar said that the former Nigerian leader can be trusted with everything without worrying about treachery when asked about the man Buhari and their connection.
“My relationship with General Buhari goes back as far as 1962. We joined the military, and he was my senior, r and during the unfortunate civil war, we were fighting in the same sector with him.
“General Buhari is a gentleman who is very quiet but exceptionally honest. You can trust Buhari with anything on this earth, and he won’t betray you. Certainly, his death has been a big blow to Nigeria,” Abubakar submitted.
He went on to say that Nigerian politics would undoubtedly shift after Buhari’s death.
