Prince Joe Okojie, who previously held the roles of Commissioner and Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security, has been selected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the forthcoming National Assembly by-election in the Edo Central Senatorial District, slated for August 16, 2025.

Okojie clinched the nomination after a closely contested primary held on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Ubiaja, located in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Among the other contenders for the senatorial ticket were John Yakubu, a former Chairman of Esan North-East Local Government Council, and Friday Itulah, who once represented the Esan South-East/Esan North-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

In a separate development, the PDP has chosen Johnny Aikpitanyi as its consensus candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency by-election into the House of Representatives. Aikpitanyi emerged unchallenged, having been the sole aspirant cleared during the screening process held at the PDP State Secretariat in Benin City.

Chris Nehikhare, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Edo State, issued a statement confirming that the party had successfully completed both the screening and primary elections in the two constituencies.
