Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has promised to personally address the concerns of retired police officers protesting against inadequate retirement benefits.
This commitment was relayed by the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.
On Monday, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, alongside other activists, led a protest in Abuja with retired officers demanding better welfare for both current and former members of the Nigeria Police Force.
Via a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that the FCT Commissioner had engaged with the demonstrators.
The statement also indicated that arrangements have been finalized for the Inspector-General to meet with the retirees at the Peacekeeping Hall, located at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
It was further revealed that certain individuals had attempted to exploit the protest for personal or political gain.
