The Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, alongside the Ministry of Police Affairs, has rejected a statement released by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on July 31, 2025, describing it as false and deceptive.

According to a statement released earlier, the PSC, represented by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, had on Thursday distanced itself from an advertisement shared by the Police Academy, which invited candidates to apply for the 12th Regular Course Degree Programmes of the Nigeria Police Force.

The PSC claimed that the announcement which indicated that applications would be accepted from July 28 to September 8, 2025 breached established procedures and attempted to encroach on its constitutional responsibilities.

The commission maintained that only it is legally empowered to appoint individuals into the Nigeria Police Force, a position it stated has been upheld by both the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.

However, in a response issued on Friday, Bolaji Kazeem, Director of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry of Police Affairs, speaking on behalf of the Police Academy, affirmed that the admissions process for the 12th Regular Course remains active and legitimate.

According to the ministry, the ongoing admission exercise complies with the standards set by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs. It emphasized that the PSC does not possess any constitutional authority over university admissions.

“The attention of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, and the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs has been drawn to a misleading and inaccurate disclaimer issued by the Police Service Commission on 31st July 2025,” the statement said, stressing that the PSC disclaimer is “therefore legally baseless and misleading”.

The ministry called on prospective candidates and the public to ignore the PSC’s announcement, assuring that the online portal for applications remains accessible as originally scheduled.
