Nicole Westmoreland, a member of the legal team defending music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs, has revealed efforts are underway to secure a presidential pardon from Donald Trump.
Diddy is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3.
“It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had conversations in reference to a pardon,” Westmoreland told CNN.
Despite the outreach, indications suggest that a pardon is unlikely. In an interview with Newsmax on Friday, President Trump acknowledged having a friendly relationship with Diddy but downplayed the chances of granting clemency.
When asked if his personal ties to Diddy might lead to a pardon, Trump responded, “I would say so, yeah.”
A jury in New York convicted Diddy last month on two counts related to transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution each of which carries a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.
