Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s underwhelming performance at the 2024 African Nations Championship.
Despite the nation’s strong football reputation, the team failed to make it past the group stage of the tournament.
Nigeria’s campaign began with back-to-back defeats against Senegal and Sudan, effectively ending their chances of advancing. However, they wrapped up their group fixtures on a high note with a 2-0 win over Congo.
The Super Eagles found the breakthrough in the second half, with goals coming from Anas Yusuf and Sikiru Alimi.
Chelle commended the squad for their determination and resilience, acknowledging the players’ efforts in securing the consolation victory.
“They played with honour and showed what they could really do. Our only big regret remains the heavy defeat to Sudan, but that’s football,” Chelle was quoted by CAFonline.
