Over 50 bandits have been neutralized, and several kidnapped individuals rescued in a joint operation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army in Kumbashi village, located in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

The mission was carried out on Tuesday, in response to an attempted invasion by nearly 300 armed men targeting a DSS base in the region.

Security forces responded with heavy gunfire, engaging the assailants in a fierce battle that ultimately forced them to retreat, leaving many casualties behind. Reports indicate that several of the attackers fled with gunshot injuries.

During the operation, seven abducted persons were freed, and stolen livestock was also recovered.

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, praised the security forces for the successful mission, calling it a significant step forward in the ongoing war against armed banditry.

This event follows closely behind the recent capture of Abubakar Abba, a key figure in the notorious Mahmuda terror group, who was apprehended by DSS personnel in Wawa, Niger State.

Locals in Kumbashi expressed renewed hope, saying the operation signaled that law enforcement is regaining control in communities long troubled by bandit activities.
