Sterling Bank has officially unveiled the first 99 beneficiaries of its N2bn Beyond Education Scholarship Fund during the latest edition of the Sterling Leadership Series (SLS), held at the Alliance Française de Lagos / Mike Adenuga Centre.

The scholarship scheme, launched earlier this year, represents one of the boldest private-sector investments in higher education in Nigeria. It is structured around the bank’s HEART strategy – Health, Education, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Transportation – with a vision to support deserving students with full tuition scholarships.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Operating Officer of Sterling Bank, Temitayo Adegoke, described the initiative as the dawn of a new era. “At Sterling, we see education as the most powerful tool for transformation. We have invested, and will continue to invest, in programmes that extend access to quality education and create pathways for real-world opportunities,” he said

The forum gathered thought leaders from entrepreneurship, policy, and education, including uLesson and Miva University founder Sim Shagaya, NUC deputy director Dr Ayoteju Ogun, and Sterling Bank’s Chief Entrepreneur David Adebayo. They collectively urged Africa to move beyond conventional learning models and instead embrace creativity, adaptability, and lifelong learning as engines for progress in today’s economy.

Reinforcing this vision, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman, stressed that the SLS was created to set benchmarks for impact. “The Sterling Leadership Series was designed to set a standard. Tonight, that standard is clear. Our young people have the talent, the curiosity, and the courage. What they need are the right opportunities, and we are creating the platforms, the tools, and the pathways to unlock Nigeria’s greatest dividend: its people,” he declared.

The unveiling of the inaugural batch of scholars was met with loud applause, hailed as both a landmark academic milestone and a bold statement of values. Sterling Bank added: “With N2bn committed to opportunity, Sterling Bank is rewriting the script for how financial institutions shape a nation’s future, placing people at the centre and turning investment into lasting impact. Already, the Beyond Education Scholarship is sparking conversations nationwide, reminding Nigerians that the future is not inherited; it is built.”

The SLS, a quarterly interactive forum, remains one of Sterling’s flagship platforms for fostering cross-industry collaboration, inspiring transformative ideas, and driving measurable impact across society.
