Veteran Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has blamed President Bola Tinubu for the political turmoil in Rivers State that ultimately led to the imposition of a six-month state of emergency.
Okonkwo made the accusation on Monday during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a programme aired on Channels Television.
He stated that the Rivers State Governor had previously expressed a strong commitment to peace, noting that this was not the first time such a declaration had been made.
According to him, even after the Supreme Court delivered its verdict, the governor reiterated his stance on maintaining peace and immediately began complying with the court’s directives.
“Why was the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State in the first place? There was no crisis in Rivers State. What we had was political lockdown.
“Over 200 people were killed in Benue State, Boko Haram has been liquidation our officers and citizens of Nigeria, more than 500 people died of natural disaster in Niger State, the president did not think for extra-ordinary measure.
“In Rivers State where there was no crisis, no political riot and then you declared state of emergency. This is what is most annoying about it. The president is using the Supreme Court judgment to even talk about state of emergency. That is bewitchment. APC has upgraded from deceiving people through lies to bewitching people through enchantment.
“It was President Tinubu initiated the crisis in Rivers State, when there was none. How many people were killed or maimed,” he asked.
