The reasons for the visit to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday were revealed by Kabiru Turaki, SAN, the factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Turaki arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) on Saturday at precisely 11:27 a.m., accompanied by some executive members of his faction of the National Working Committee (NWC), former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Plateau Governor Jonah Jang, and other party leaders.

He met with Obasanjo behind closed doors right away.

Speaking to reporters soon after the roughly 40-minute meeting, Turaki stated that the purpose of the visit was to gain Obasanjo’s support and direction in effectively leading the party and overthrowing the All Progressives Congress in 2027.

He noted that although it may not be easy to overthrow the APC administration in 2027 because of their ineptitude and bad leadership, the open discussion with the former president has further encouraged them that the task at hand is not insurmountable.

Obasanjo was described as a highly experienced elder statesman and former president under the PDP administration by the former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs under former President Goodluck Jonathan. Obasanjo’s legacy of creating strong institutions has strengthened the nation’s democratic growth.

He said, “As the newly elected PDP leadership during our recent congress at Ibadan, we came to introduce ourselves to our father, the former President under the PDP administration, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

“We came to thank the former President for his vision and contributions to strengthening our democracy and good governance while he was in power. We came to thank him for helping to build strong institutions which the country is enjoying till today.

“We have also come to see the former President to draw inspiration from him as an oracle, we have come to get guidance, we have come to get advice, we have equally come to get critical support because if we must succeed in the gargantuan assignment that has been thrust upon our shoulders, then we must come to people like Chief Obasanjo who have the prerequisite experience.

“We realized more than ever before now that yes, the task before us may not be an easy one but from the inspiration and guidance that we have received from Baba today, we are more than ready to go all the way and take PDP back to the seat of power come 2027.”

Turaki declared that the PDP is prepared to fight in 2027, pointing out that this will become clearer when the party wins the upcoming gubernatorial elections in the states of Ekiti and Osun.

“By the time we win these two states we shall leave no one in doubt that PDP, once again, is on the move. PDP is on the rise to chase out the APC government with all its incompetence and maladministration in 2027,” he added.

In their separate speeches, the party’s National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, and BOT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, called on the party’s members to remain unified and begin mass mobilization in order to bring the party back to power and continue its tradition of excellent governance and generous welfare for the people.
