United States President, Donald Trump has instructed federal agencies to start examining and disclosing government records pertaining to unidentified aerial phenomena, UFO sightings, and allegations of extraterrestrial life.

Trump stated in a message on Truth Social that he would direct the Secretary of War and other pertinent departments to begin the process of identifying and declassifying files related to aliens, UAPs (unidentified aerial phenomena), UFOs (unidentified flying objects), and other associated issues he referred to as “complex” but of considerable public interest.

“Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters,” Trump wrote.

Shortly after Trump’s criticism of former President Barack Obama regarding comments made during a podcast appearance, the announcement was made.

While aboard Air Force One, Trump implied that Obama might have crossed a line by publicly addressing the topic, stating, “He’s not supposed to be doing that. He made a big mistake.”

Obama made his remarks in a “lightning round” segment of a podcast hosted by Brian Tyler Cohen.

Obama noted in that exchange that, although he found it statistically plausible that life might exist elsewhere in the vast universe, he had seen no evidence during his presidency of extraterrestrial contact with Earth.

He dismissed conspiracy theories regarding secret locations like Area 51, asserting that there was no covert alien program hidden from the president.

In light of media coverage, Obama emphasized on Instagram that while the vastness of the universe makes the existence of life elsewhere plausible, he found no evidence of extraterrestrial visits during his presidency.

When questioned about his personal belief in extraterrestrials, Trump answered carefully, expressing uncertainty and noting that he does not often discuss the subject.

In recent years, the public’s interest in UAPs has grown stronger. The United States Department of Defense published an assessment in 2024 that stated there was no verified evidence of alien encounters and concluded that most reported sightings were likely ordinary objects or misidentified phenomena.

In 2023, the U.S. House of Representatives conducted a public hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena, demonstrating an increasing interest across party lines. Nonetheless, that session did not yield definitive evidence of extraterrestrial activity.

No suggestion has been made that Obama based his podcast comments on classified intelligence.
