A woman, suspected of being mentally ill, was rescued after unexpectedly delivering a baby girl by the roadside in Kwaita village, located in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Distress Call and Immediate Response
SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday. She explained that the command received an urgent distress report from officers of the Rapid Response Squad during a routine patrol.
The officers informed authorities that an unidentified woman, believed to be mentally unstable, had given birth along the roadside.
Swift Rescue and Medical Attention
In response, the officer in charge of the Gender Unit at Kwali Division, along with her team, immediately mobilized to the scene. “The mother and her newborn were safely rescued and taken to General Hospital, Kwali, where they received medical attention and were later discharged in stable condition,” Adeh said.
Following Standard Procedures
Adeh also mentioned that the Welfare Officer of Kwali Area Council, Sadiq Kwali, was contacted to follow the standard procedures in the case.

The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, acknowledged and praised the officers involved for their quick response, professionalism, and compassion in handling the situation.
