The governor issued the directive over the weekend during the University’s 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Combined Convocation held in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state.
“This will be the last combined convocation to take place in this University. Vice Chancellor, I want you to work out modalities that convocations should be done as and when due,” the Governor said.
Eno, who is also a PhD holder, appealed to the Vice Chancellor of AKSU to allow him teach a course in the newly established Department of Business Development and Entrepreneurial Studies on a pro bono basis.
He acknowledged that despite his busy schedule as governor, he would create time to impart practical knowledge to students, particularly in the areas of business development and small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).
He also urged graduates of the University to be innovative, make meaningful impact, and embrace entrepreneurship, describing it as a key driver for unlocking potential and achieving sustainable growth.
His words, “I am so thrilled with the addition of this department that I am announcing here today my readiness to teach a course pro bono in this department, to impart my practical insights to help students understand the basics and principles of business development, especially small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).
The governor further authorized the Head of Service to develop necessary frameworks to explore the employment of first-class graduates, as well as selected individuals with master’s and Ph.D degrees.
Referencing the theme of the combined convocation, “The Nigerian University System and National Defence in the 21st Century,” he commended and called for support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu in addressing the country’s security challenges.
The Governor also praised the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oto-Abasi Akpan, for his dedication, diligence, humility, and collaborative efforts in advancing the university.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oto-Abasi Akpan, expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for his continued support and confidence in the institution’s leadership.
He disclosed that a total of 6,779 undergraduate students and 746 postgraduate students were awarded degrees, urging them to be worthy ambassadors of the institution in society.
