Former England striker Alan Shearer has revealed the starting lineup he believes could guide the Three Lions to success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

England remain one of the leading contenders to lift the trophy at the tournament.

The Three Lions, who finished as runners-up at the last two UEFA European Championships, possess a squad filled with quality players under the guidance of German manager Thomas Tuchel.

Their campaign began on a positive note with a 4-2 victory over Croatia.

However, England were later held to a goalless draw by a determined Ghana side in their second Group L encounter. A victory over Panama in their final group match could still secure top spot in the group.

Debates surrounding England’s preferred starting lineup have continued among supporters and football analysts.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Metro, Shearer outlined the team he believes should take the field.

The 55-year-old kept Jordan Pickford as England’s first-choice goalkeeper.

His preferred backline consists of Reece James, John Stones, Marc Guehi, and Nico O’Reilly, combining experience with emerging talent.

In midfield, Shearer opted for a balanced setup, selecting Elliot Anderson in a holding role, Declan Rice in a box-to-box position, and Jude Bellingham in an advanced attacking role.

The former striker also made notable selections on the wings, choosing Bukayo Saka, who is currently recovering from injury, alongside Marcus Rashford, who has so far featured from the bench in England’s opening two matches.

Up front, Shearer handed the central striking role to England captain Harry Kane, the country’s all-time leading scorer with 81 goals in 116 appearances.

The former Newcastle United forward expressed confidence that the lineup he selected has the quality required to lead England to glory at the 2026 World Cup.
