The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised concerns over the activities of bandits and terrorists, alleging that they are imposing taxes on farmers across Northern Nigeria.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Professor Tukur Baba, made the disclosure on Saturday while speaking as a guest on Arise Television’s Morning Show.

He was reacting to the worsening security situation affecting Nigeria, particularly the northern region, lamenting that many farmers are now compelled to pay bandits before they can harvest crops from their farms.

“Bandits are not only imposing taxes on farmers for access to their farms, farmers are also paying to harvest their crops.

“When the news from the world food programme came out, most of us were not surprised.

“The Arewa Consultative Forum for the last few years has been drawing attention to the dire socioeconomic challenges facing the population.

“Government needs to attack the fundamentals of insecurity and show supremacy,” he said.
