Iran’s military has announced a reward of approximately $30,000 for anyone who captures or kills a US soldier, while women who carry out the act have reportedly been promised twice the amount.

Iranian Army Chief, Amir Hatami, said the initiative followed what he described as numerous requests from people who wanted to financially support the country’s military efforts, according to state-run IRNA news agency.

However, Hatami did not disclose when or where US military personnel could potentially be targeted under the scheme.

“There has been a large number of requests to participate in financial support,” Hatami said, explaining the reason behind the initiative.

Under the arrangement, anyone who captures or kills and hands over a US military personnel would reportedly receive about $30,000, equivalent to five billion Iranian tomans, from the Iranian Army.

Hatami further stated that Iranian women who successfully carry out the act would receive twice the standard reward.

“Courageous Iranian women who carry out such an action will receive double the reward,” he said.

The announcement comes amid escalating tensions and intermittent clashes between Iran and the United States.

There has been no known deployment of US ground forces inside Iran during the conflict, apart from a rescue mission in April involving an American pilot whose aircraft had been shot down.

According to the report, hostilities between Tehran and Washington began on February 28 after a US-Israeli attack on Iran. The conflict continued for almost 40 days before a ceasefire was reached in April.

A framework for peace negotiations was later reached in June, but the process subsequently collapsed.

Since then, Iran and the United States have continued to exchange fire intermittently, with much of the reported fighting taking place in southern Iran and areas around the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz.
