The University of Calabar, UNICAL, has alerted students to an alleged impostor posing as a professor and requesting money in exchange for purported help with their examination results.

The university disclosed that the suspect, who goes by the name “Prof. Odong,” claims to be a staff member of its Information and Communication Technology, ICT, unit.

According to the institution, the individual reaches out to students, informs them that their examination results are poor and asks for payment to help improve or facilitate their results.

UNICAL said the alleged scammer has been using the telephone number 08144115929 in carrying out the scheme.

The university added that preliminary investigations conducted by its Security Department found that there was no staff member known as Prof. Odong at the institution.

Further investigation, according to UNICAL, revealed that the individual was operating from Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The university consequently urged students to disregard any messages or calls from the alleged impostor and refrain from giving money to anyone claiming to have the power to alter or improve their examination results.

It also cautioned students against sharing personal information or examination-related details with such individuals.

Students who have been contacted by the suspect were encouraged to report the matter to the relevant university authorities for appropriate action.

UNICAL said it would sanction anyone found responsible for unethical conduct connected to its academic processes.
