Around 4:20 p.m. local time, Septain Raharja, a football player, was struck by lightning when he was participating in a friendly game between FBI Subang and 2 FLO FC Bandung.
He was taken to a nearby hospital while still still breathing, according to PRFM News, the local media. However, he died from severe burns.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Indonesia conducted a study of the incident and found that the cloud from which the lightning originated was just 300m above the stadium when it struck.
In the past 12 months, an Indonesian football player has been struck by lightning twice, a sad event.
During the 2023 Soeratin U-13 Cup, a teenage football player in Bojonegoro, East Java, was struck by lightning.
After going into cardiac arrest, the footballer was quickly removed from the pitch and brought to the Ibnu Sina Hospital in Bojonegoro to receive medical attention.
With medical intervention, the youngster was successfully revived, and after about twenty minutes, they became conscious again.
