Barely two days after warning final-year students against engaging in wild celebrations, the management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has cancelled an examination taken by students of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences.

The cancelled paper was MCB 414, titled Anti-Microbial Agents and Chemotherapy.

ZINGTIE recalls that the university’s Registrar, Mrs Oluwayomi O. Agbebaku, issued a statement dated September 16, 2026, and addressed to Deans, Heads of Departments (HoDs) and students, cautioning against wild jubilation and other activities capable of resulting in unlawful or criminal behaviour.

The directive, titled ‘Prohibition of Wild Jubilation as Second Semester Examinations for 2025/2026 Academic Session Ends’, prohibited such celebrations both within and outside the university campus.

However, on Friday, September 18, 2026, just two days after the warning was issued, the university management announced the cancellation of the MCB 414 examination following an alleged violation of the directive.

The cancellation was communicated in another statement signed by the university Registrar, Mrs Oluwayomi O. Agbebaku.

Agbebaku alleged that the affected students disregarded the earlier instruction issued by the institution.

She stated that the students had been reminded of the prohibition before taking the examination but allegedly proceeded to violate the directive after completing the paper.

“Accordingly, the University Management has decided that the examination be cancelled,” the statement said.

The Registrar explained that the decision was intended to discourage similar conduct among other students, warning that departments found violating the directive in future could face more severe sanctions.

Meanwhile, the university management has instructed students to park their vehicles at the designated car park outside the university gate to ensure smoother movement into the campus.

The institution had earlier identified several activities as constituting wild jubilation, including parades involving vehicles, motorcycles or bicycles, pouring water, sand or drinks, drinking alcohol, shouting, hooting, dancing and other activities that could encourage illegal or criminal behaviour.

The university also barred students from using the area around the Administrative Building for motorcades.

Students were instead advised to wait until the next convocation ceremony to formally celebrate their graduation.
