Abia APC Chieftain blasts State Governors over misuse of funds

Darlington Nnaoma Onyekacha, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, has urged Nigerian governors and State Houses of Assembly to ensure that monthly financial allocations to their states are properly utilised, in accordance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive.

Onyekacha made the statement on Thursday in Ikwuano, where he declared his intention to contest for the Abia State House of Assembly. He lamented that many rural communities across Nigeria remain underdeveloped, despite the substantial funds flowing into states and local government areas.

He expressed concern over the high rates of poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and infrastructure deficits in rural areas, pointing out that these issues stand in stark contrast to the large amounts of money being allocated to state and local governments.

According to Onyekacha, the situation has been exacerbated by the alleged failure of State Houses of Assembly to hold governors and local government officials accountable for the funds they receive from Abuja.

“Most of the challenges Nigeria faces today stem from the rural and state levels, not from the president,” Onyekacha stated. “It’s not that the president isn’t releasing the necessary funds to develop the states, but because of poor leadership at the state government and State House of Assembly levels.”

He vowed to advocate for the development of his Ikwuano constituency by providing a strong voice that ensures all funds allocated to the constituency are appropriately used for community advancement.
