A fresh leadership dispute has erupted within the Zamfara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as two rival factions lay claim to the party’s structure following a contested congress.

One faction, led by Malam Mohammed Mainasara, asserts that it was officially authorised by the national leadership of the party to organise and oversee the congress in the state. Mainasara stated that he chaired the committee tasked with the exercise, with Ambassador Zubairu Yalwa serving as secretary, alongside other committee members.

According to Mainasara, the committee successfully carried out its responsibilities and facilitated the formation of a new State Executive Committee (EXCO) through a consensus supported by party stakeholders.

Mainasara further noted that the process produced Malam Shehu Gulubba as State Chairman and Dr. Ahmad Hashim as Secretary. Jafafar Aliyu was appointed Youth Leader, while Maryam Abdullahi was named Women Leader, among other positions.

However, this development has been rejected by a competing faction led by Kabiru Garba Gusau, who insists that he remains the legitimate state chairman.

Gusau labelled the process that led to the new leadership as invalid, accusing it of being orchestrated by individuals seeking to create division within the party for political gain. He contended that any valid congress must involve comprehensive consultation and agreement among all stakeholders.

Gusau also revealed that his faction has reported the matter to security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), and stressed that they would not recognise the outcome of the contested exercise.

Additionally, Gusau announced disciplinary actions against those who participated in the congress, affirming that, as chairman, he retains the authority to suspend or expel party members.
