ADC crisis deepens as fresh leadership emerges in Adamawa

The crisis within the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has escalated following the emergence of another factional chairman.

Dr Markus Peter Danbaki was sworn in as chairman by one of the party’s factions on Sunday, September 13, becoming the third person to claim leadership of the ADC in Adamawa State.

Adamawa is the home state of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Prior to Danbaki’s emergence, the party had already been divided between two factions led by Sadiq Dasin and Alhaji Sai’du Naira.

The latest development has further complicated the internal crisis within the party, coming at a time when two individuals are also laying claim to the ADC governorship ticket in the state ahead of the 2027 election.

Hamman Tukur Modibbo, who finished second in the party’s governorship primary conducted in May, is currently listed on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, portal as the ADC candidate.

Omar Suleiman, who emerged winner of the primary election, has rejected Modibbo’s emergence and has taken the matter to court in a bid to reclaim the ticket.

Meanwhile, Danbaki was formally inaugurated as the latest factional chairman during a ceremony held late on Sunday.

The oath of office was administered to him by Ibrahim Ahmad, a factional legal adviser of the party, in the presence of members loyal to the faction.

The emergence of a third factional chairman is expected to further intensify the leadership dispute within the ADC in Adamawa State.
