AFCON 2023: Super Eagles star suffers food poisoning ahead of Cote d’Ivoire clash

Bright Osayi-Samuel, a fullback for the Super Eagles, disclosed that he had food poisoning this past week.

This occurs the day before Nigeria’s second Group A matchup with Côte d’Ivoire in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Osayi-Samuel began the 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea as a substitute; star Ola Aina was named in the starting lineup by head coach Jose Peseiro.

But as the Eagles sought a second goal in the second half of the match, Osayi-Samuel came in for Aina.

The star of Fenerbahce would have been excited to play against the Ivorians on Thursday in his first-ever AFCON match. His availability is currently uncertain, though, as he became weak due to food poisoning.

“I got food poisoning. Today, I’m a bit weak, but I should be okay,” Osayi-Samuel told reporters.
