Again, UK-based Nigerian bags five-years’ jail term for rape

Segun Ogundipe, a Nigerian resident of the UK, was given a five-year prison sentence by a UK court for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting a lady in Gloucester.

Although he denied all charges, Ogundipe, 33, of Tuffley Lane, Gloucester, was convicted guilty of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and assault by penetration.

This occurs just a few days after Elvis Nosakhare, another Nigerian, was sentenced to six years in prison for sexually abusing his girlfriend’s minor daughter.

Gloucestershire Police claim that Ogundipe invited the woman out for drinks after meeting her at work in 2022.

The police also stated that she became more and more uneasy with his sexual comments as the evening went on.

Later, after using the restroom, he drove her to his house on false pretenses of picking up something, where she was sexually attacked and raped.

According to the investigation, the victim repeatedly asked Ogundipe to stop touching her, but he persisted in doing so on the drive to Cheltenham. She had an opportunity to flee when police officers halted his car during a regular patrol.

She was initially reluctant to tell anyone what had happened, but once an officer saw that she was upset, she told them about the rape. After being taken into custody and accused, Ogundipe later testified in court that the victim had asked for and consented to sexual contact, an allegation that the jury rejected.

Although Ogundipe’s strong character references were accepted, Judge Lowe emphasized that the seriousness of the offenses warranted a five-year prison term. After serving his sentence, Ogundipe will also be deported.

In her statement read to the court, the survivor said: “It is still crazy to me to think how your words and your actions have made me question my worth entirely. Some days, what you did to me plays over and over in my head. What you did was vile and one of the worst things you could do to someone.

“I spent so long believing that I must have deserved what you did to me, but I know now that you had no right to the rights of my body. Every single part of my life paused. I had to leave my job, a job that I loved deeply, because I couldn’t cope.

“I became scared to meet new people, to even smile at someone out of fear that it would be taken the wrong way. I lost my spark, and even now I’m still only starting to heal.”
