APC chieftain urges PDP to resolve crisis, merge with ADC

Farouk Aliyu, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, has recommended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to fix its internal issue or consider merging with the African Democratic Congress.

Aliyu delivered the advise during an interview on a national television broadcast, emphasizing the importance of unity and concessions within the PDP for the party’s survival and the health of Nigeria’s democracy.

“I call on my brothers and sisters in the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress to put their acts together. In my opinion, the PDP should merge with the ADC,” he said.

According to him, if the PDP is actually in decline, a merger may revitalize the opposition and promote democratic government in the country.

He stated that strong opposition parties are vital for holding the government responsible.

Aliyu recalled that the APC was formed through the merging of many political groups, including the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

He insisted that it was not the APC’s role to unite opposition parties, and that recognized political figures within the PDP and ADC should take steps to reposition themselves.

The APC chairman stated that the ruling party was not frightened of opposition, emphasizing that Nigeria belongs to all citizens, not any individual or political party.

His comments come amid continuous leadership difficulties in the PDP and the recent defection of several important party figures, including governors and National Assembly members, to the APC.
