Bandits murder Lafia business mogul, residents kill one suspect in retaliation

Alhaji Sani Sabo, a well-known businessman and philanthropist, was shot dead by suspected bandits on Sunday night, sending Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, into sorrow.

The community was rocked by the incident, which happened at around 9:20 p.m.

According to witnesses, the armed men broke into the area, started shooting at Alhaji Sani, and then made an attempt to flee.

However, locals were furious over the murder and swiftly organized to fight the assailants. One of the gunmen was lynched in the confusion, while the others ran away into the night.

The late merchant was a pillar of support to the impoverished in Lafia, according to a close colleague.

“He was more than a businessman; he was family to many of us. His generosity was unmatched. The entire community is shattered by his death,” the source told newsmen.

His home was crowded with mourners early on Monday morning, and Islamic customs dictated that his funeral would take place at 2:00 p.m.

Security services and the Nasarawa State Government had not yet issued an official comment regarding the incident as of the time of publication.
